Moms on the Go: Be Ready for Anything!

No matter where you are or what you’re doing, this is the ultimate diaper bag checklist for every mom on the go!

An Overview of the Essentials

Believe it or not, it’s totally possible to fit all 16 of these essentials into a standard diaper bag. The key is to pack them efficiently. Let’s take a closer look at each item!

Huggies Diapers

Probably the most basic item in your diaper bag: diapers, of course! I’m a big fan of Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers because they’re hypoallergenic and gentle on baby’s behind. Diapers pack pretty flat, so you can fit more than you think if you pack them tightly so you’re never caught without one. I also like to pack a single diaper in a random pocket as my last-chance emergency diaper in case I run out of my main supply.

Huggies Wipes

Next to diapers, wipes are probably the second-most important item to make sure you have stocked in your diaper bag. I love the Huggies Natural Care Wipes: versatile and gentle for everything from baby’s face and mommy’s hands to table tops and car seats!

Changing Pad

Whether it’s a bathroom changing table or the backseat of your car, be ready to change baby’s diaper at the drop of a hat with a foldable changing pad.

Extra Outfits and Hat

Just like moms on the go might have an extra change of clothes at work or in the car, make sure baby has a spare outfit too! Two extra bodysuits ensure you’ll never be short an outfit and a hat is good to have for unexpected chilly or rainy weather.

Plastic Bags

Sometimes baby has a blowout – thank goodness you have those extra outfits! But what to do with that soiled outfit? Wrap it up in a plastic bag to keep it from getting all over the inside of your diaper bag. Just don’t forget to take it out and toss it in the laundry when you get back home!

Pacifier case

Pacifiers and Case

You’ll definitely want to have multiple pacifiers around, because baby loves to toss them when you’re not looking. I keep mine in this quirky little zippered case so I don’t have to dig around to find them in my bag.

Hand Sanitizer

Protect baby from germs if you’re not able to get to soap and water while on the go. This travel sized bottle even comes with a handy loop so you can clip it onto the bag without having to dig for it.

Diaper Rash Cream

Protect baby’s bum with a dab of diaper rash cream, especially if you’re going to be out for more than a few hours.

Baby Lotion

Baby lotion is a must-have for babies, who get dry skin even in the warmest of weather. It’s also great for mom too, if she ever needs a quick touch up for dry skin of her own.

Nursing Cover and Nursing Pads

If you’re a breastfeeding mom on the go, a nursing cover is an absolute diaper bag essential. You can cover up and feed baby comfortably while in public. It’s also a good idea to pack away a couple of nursing pads in case you spring an unexpected leak.

Bottle of Milk

Sometimes it’s helpful to have a quick bottle of “top-off” milk if you’re breastfeeding and aren’t able to easily breastfeed in public. Similarly, if you’re formula feeding, you can always toss in an unopened bottle of ready-to-feed formula with your nipple of choice.

Rattle Toys

A couple of small rattle toys are great if you need to quickly distract baby while changing him on the go or just need to entertain them for a few minutes. You don’t have to pack anything big, just a couple of small toys you can tuck into your bag.

Receiving Blanket

A small receiving blanket can serve many purposes for moms on the go: instant swaddle, makeshift towel, or even a last-resort “umbrella” to keep baby from getting wet in the rain!

Small Comb and Hair Ties

This is more of an item for mom than it is for baby. A baby’s comb is the perfect size to toss into your diaper bag to brush out baby’s hair… or your own! Hair ties are also great for those bad hair days while also doing double duty as a makeshift rubber band.
