In my pre-child days I LOVED hosting parties. I still enjoy hosting parties, but these days I just don’t have the time to get super fancy like I did in the old days. But, that doesn’t mean I can’t still play hostess – it just means that now I look for ways to keep our parties kid-friendly and stress-free. Think it’s too last minute to host a 4th of July party? Think again. Here a 7 ways to keep it simple and fun!
1. Keep the decor simple
There are endless tutorials on Pinterest that will convince you that you need to decorate for your party in elaborate style, but it’s simply not the case. Simply adding in a few red, white and blue components via items you would already be using (i.e. fun straws, plates, cups, napkins, etc.) will give a festive feel without requiring all the extra prep.
2. Make kid-friendly foods
Make sure to consider all your guests in the food prep, including the littlest ones. Adding kid-friendly, nutritious eats to your menu will go a long way. This fun watermelon “cake” is a perfect example.
3. Share the responsibilities
There’s no need to overextend yourself when hosting a party. Simply ask your friends to chip in and share the responsibilities. Invite your guests to bring a favorite drink or snack, or even just paper plates. Most people will be more than happy to contribute, and it will take so much stress off of you, so you can enjoy your party
4. E-mail invites

5. Find fun firework alternatives
While older kids may be in attendance at your shindig, take time to consider your littler guests and whip up a fun firework alternative, like these confetti launchers, if you have the time.
6. Add some water fun
You can’t go wrong with some water fun. Bring out the sprinklers and wading pools and having fun splashing in your yard – it will be the biggest hit with your little guests.
7. Have a parade
Invite your friends to wear their 4th of July finest and bring trikes, wagons or whatever else they think would make for a fun parade. Invite your neighborhood to get in on it! Blast some music and parade through the neighborhood. The kids will get a kick out of it!
