The decision by Texas Governor Rick Perry to become a Republican candidate for President has required him to explain his state’s policies, but in truth many states are wrestling with growing illegal immigrant populations.

Assimilated America’s disadvantage is it simply does not have the tribal focus the opposition enjoys. Look at the interest group names. It’s not Eins Volk or Gypsies Without Borders. Instead you have La Raza (The Race) and Mexicans Without Borders.

The problem with trying to see all sides of the problem is that, sooner or later, you have to pick a side. That is what Americans are doing in light of the recent law passed in Arizona; a law that mirrors a federal law that, quite simply, is not being enforced.

LEGAL immigrants of all nationalities are welcomed and appreciated. The issue of illegal immigration should not be clouded by specious claims of racism or xenophobia. These straw-man arguments serve only to distract from the true issue: There are people who violate our borders without authorization and have no right to be in the United States.
