Is It Already Too Late For America?

Back in August of 2008 I wrote the following:

“When is America going to wake up? WILL she wake up? Will she wake up in time? Or, will time run out? We have been sliding down that slippery slope at an every increasing velocity since the 1960’s. We’re not losing our freedom. We’re not losing our country. No. We’re giving it all away.

We have compromised and compromised until we have little left TO compromise. Yet, we have two presidential candidates, right now, who are BOTH believers in compromise. They make a big deal of their willingness to compromise. What is needed is the testosterone to stand up on our two feet, like men, and shake our fist in the face of our enemies and say, NO MORE! This is it! We are done giving you what you want just to be left alone in our comfortable little cocoons.

The wolves have been gathering in an ever-tightening circle. They are closing in one step at a time. And we Americans don’t see it. Instead we continue to feed them while telling ourselves if we give them what they want they will be our friends. We have chosen to forget one of the laws of Nature. Wolves are what wolves are. They do what wolves do. Even a wolf, thought to be domesticated, is liable to turn and leap for the throat of the person who supposes he is the wolf’s master. Yes, wolves do as wolves have always done… because they ARE wolves.

America’s enemies are gathered against us. They are tightening the circle. Even now they are among us. Sadly, a look in the mirror will reveal the identity of America’s worst enemies.” (SOURCE)

At the time I wrote that dire prospective, America was nearing a Presidential Election … an election that would fundamentally change our country for the worst. It was an election, as it turned out, that has nearly destroyed, especially, America’s Middle Class.

As we had warned, many times, neither of the men on the ballot would be good for America. One would continue the (then) agenda of the current administration and the other would, most certainly, take the country into socialism and set America up to become a communist dictatorship.

Many thought I could not be more wrong – and said so. Today, however, many of those people who derided my dark prognostications then, will not communicate with me today for their embarrassment. They need not be embarrassed. Being wrong is a part of the human condition. But one of the traits that sets us above the other animals inhabiting the earth is our ability to learn from our mistakes — and not repeat them.

Now we have the chance to put what we have learned in the past years of Obama’s Administration into practice. We have a chance to right the wrong and to begin an American recovery. I say “begin” because I am still not convinced Mr. Romney has the heft to do what is going to be necessary to reverse Americans deep plunge into Obama’s sewer of socialism and communism. But he WOULD be a start. And let’s not kid ourselves: The scars of the Obama regime are deep and ugly and they will last forever.

Look. Let’s be clear about this: The mess we are in, as a nation, is going to take generations to neutralize. I use the word “neutralize,” because first — we must stop the slide into that sewer I mentioned above. Then, and only then, can we begin to reverse ourselves and begin to claw our way upwards into the sunshine again.

I asked the question in the title: Is it already too late for America? I titled this piece that way because I think each of us, as Americans, must look in the mirror and ask the same question of ourselves. For it is WE who will decide the answer.

I cannot tell you have often I have had friends, in recent years, remark to me: “I don’t recognize this country, anymore. This is not the America I knew.” That is true. But the thing I find most interesting about their depressed musing — is the lack of bitterness and anger. There was remorse in their words and tone, but none of that famed American determination aimed at correcting whatever had thrown America off course. It is as if they have simply thrown in the towel, given up, and admitted defeat to themselves — if not quite to others yet. I am terribly afraid that the fire, for many, has gone out.

Understand: The primary tool of the political left, all over the world, against those who do not hew to the leftist line, is to denigrate, degrade, rebuff, mock, and hold up to public ridicule all those who do not think the way they do. And when rhetoric fails, as we learned from the 1930’s, they quickly resort to physical abuse by leftist thugs. We saw some of that in the 2010 political cycle right here in America. Look for physical abuse to be more wide spread this year as we draw nearer to the Presidential Election.

To answer my own question — whether or not it is already too late for America – we will all know the answer to that in November. If Obama wins – yes, it IS all over for America. If his opponent wins, well, we have a chance, a small one at best — but a chance, nevertheless, to save our country.

Can You Hold It ’til We Get Home?

It’s beginning to look like Governor Flomax — the man who closed the highway rest stops in Virginia — will enter the race for our open US Senate seat. Former governor Tim Kaine is much sought after as a candidate due to his most notable accomplishment, which came on November 8, 2005, when he won the election. And not because he was the scourge of car–trip families all along the Eastern seaboard.

Even though Kaine’s career peaked before he was sworn in, he’s still the only Democrat in Virginia who’s won a statewide race in the last five years and is not already in the Senate.

Looking back over his term in the governor’s office, there was always something of a mismatch between Kaine’s vision of what his legacy would include and the political reality of what was feasible in Virginia.

(Conversely, his political philosophy why he’s so perfect in his current out–of–town job as chairman of the Democratic National Committee: He actually believes Obama’s ideas are brilliant!)

Kaine didn’t plan to be known for the remarkable number of men who could be seen standing with their backs to the roadway just inside the woods along the interstate. Nor did he wish to be known for the skyrocketing number of women suffering from poison ivy exposure and urinary tract infections.

Initially his legacy was to be built on a foundation of transportation, teacher pay raises and universal pre–Kindergarten. Kaine’s solution for our chronic traffic woes involved passing a tax increase, with the money to be used to transport motorists along new highways, rather than into nearby bushes.

His pre–K mobilization — a big favorite with the teacher’s unions — was intended to expand early childhood education and rev toddlers up like a BMW at a stoplight; preparing them to eventually beat the Jamaicans in a spelling bee.

But his failure to pass a tax increase for roads and spelling flash cards forced former Gov. Kaine into legacy retrenchment. Universal pre–K, better known as subsidized daycare, collided with a tight budget environment. So he grudgingly limited the proposed program to students who qualified for reduced–price lunches.

But even that fell victim to budget problems. All Kaine could persuade the General Assembly to fund was a pilot program that had his two teenagers playing “Baby Einstein” videos for neighborhood children.

And we know what happened to transportation, although all may not be lost — with Ms. Obama currently waging Jihad on Junk Food it’s entirely possible the Kaine campaign can position rest stop closing as part of a plan to fight obesity by encouraging Virginia residents to take impromptu nature walks.

These multiple legacy failures are why even the Washington Post describes Kaine as having a “somewhat deflated political record.”

But you know; he is the only Democrat to win a statewide election in the last five years.
Kaine’s other accomplishment was passing what amounted to a statewide ban on smoking in restaurants, but removing second–hand smoke flavor from the french fries is hardly the basis for a campaign. It would be understandable for a candidate who specializes in emissions control to angle for the job of Environmental Protection Agency administrator, but becoming the next senator is a stretch.

Kaine did leave office with a 60 percent approval rating among Virginians with a healthy urethra, but this is simply tautology popularity. He was popular because, like a reality show participant, his name was in the paper and not because Virginians approved of any particular accomplishment, simply because there weren’t any. This popularity will soon disappear when the campaign starts.

Kaine as senate candidate is also an odd choice for a state that so thoroughly repudiated the Obama administration in the last election. As chairman of the DNC, Kaine is joined at the hip with Obama. There is no way he can credibly distance himself from Obamacare, cap–and–trade, high unemployment, huge deficits, $4–a–gallon gasoline and Michelle’s diet hectoring. This is a major vulnerability in a state that defeated three incumbent Democrat congressmen in the last election.

But have I mentioned Kaine is the only Democrat to win a statewide election in the last five years?
In an interview, Kaine once defined success in politics as doing things that nobody will ever want to undo. By his own benchmark, the Kaine legacy comes up very short.

But Kaine did provide me with my favorite rhetorical question during his last year in office. Many times I was able to respond to a question with an obvious answer by asking, “Does the Virginia motorist poop in the woods?”

Groomed for a Socialist Dictatorship

America’s very own government is systematically destroying the United States of America. If this comes as a revelation to you – then where have you BEEN?

America’s destruction has been ongoing for some time now. But not until the election of the democrat controlled Congress in 2006 and the election of President Obama in 2008 did it swing into high gear and the real dismantling of our constitutional republic begin in earnest.

Today, America is just a shell of its former self. We have seen how quickly a determined enemy of the constitution can bring havoc to bear on our nation as we look back over the months since November 2006.

Like a cancer devouring its host from within the socialism of the Democratic Party and the Obama Regime have, little by little, brought America to her knees. There can be no doubt that America is dying and dying quickly.

Fortunately, there are some Americans who have taken notice of this silent attack on America. To their credit they are desperately trying to alert all Americans to the imminent death of our constitutional republic. These American patriots do not plan to stand by and watch America destroyed from within. They have banded together to make a last ditch effort to stanch the out flowing of the energy force from America’s socialist damaged veins. They are known by many names. The Tea Party is the best-known moniker.

There is method to the apparent madness of the liberal-socialists in the American government today. Many contend they are intentionally making an all out effort to collapse America’s system of government along with her financial and economic systems and then reform them under a strong centralized socialist government which will have the American citizen completely at the mercy of the socialist/Marxist government.

There is a concerted effort today, in America, to destroy capitalism. I have come to believe the destruction of capitalism is an integral part of the plan to collapse America’s economic system and replace it with socialism akin to the Soviet Union style economic system. No matter that it failed in the USSR, the American liberal-socialists believe they can succeed because they believe themselves smarter than the Soviets.

It has become clearer and clearer as the months of the Obama regime have dragged by that the intended end result — if the liberal-socialists get their way — will be a communist America.

So sure are the liberal-socialists of victory they have already begun laying the foundation for their socialist dictatorship. For evidence look to Obama’s “Czars.” Look at the Environmental Protection Agency power grabs. Look at the influence the “green movement” has on our government today. Observe America’s elite in business, entertainment, and, yes, the Mainstream Media kow-towing to Obama’s every whim as they try to ingratiate themselves to the Obama Regime convinced, as they are, that we are on the threshold of a socialist dictatorship in America.

Generations of Americans, educated in our government school system, have grown up believing that government can solve any problem — and do it better that a free market.

As we said above, the effort to destroy America as a constitutional republic began long ago. For at least two generations our young scholars have been indoctrinated in liberal-socialism in our government schools. The masses were, even then, being prepared for this moment in American history.

For the past eighteen months to two years Americans have been shaking off their lethargy and coming fully awake and now — they are ready to fight back. And fight they will.

“D-Day” is November 2nd, the Mid-Term Election. Americans intend to send a message, not only to the Obama Regime and to the entire US government, but to the European Socialist states, as well. That message is: Americans ARE DIFFERENT! Americans WILL LIVE FREE.

In the Mid-Term Election we intend to purge as many liberal-socialists and progressives, as we possibly can, from the government of the United States. And that is just step one.

For step two, we intend to do it all over again — in the election of November 2012 — when we intend to send Obama packing and cleanse the remaining liberal-socialists and progressives from our Congress.

Take it from one who grew up as a free American. America is no longer free. The only way we can regain the freedoms we have already lost and to stop our incredibly swift slide into the socialist sewer is to regain control of our government. It is an absolute must. This is a battle free Americans must win. The alternative is the hell of socialist slavery.

Will Obama Suspend the Mid Term Election?

More and more politics-watchers are coming around to the conclusion that the scheduled Mid-Term Election in November of 2010 will be a political bloodbath for the Democratic Party. It is beginning to appear as if the democrats may, indeed, lose control of BOTH houses of the Congress. As a conservative I can only hope and pray they do.

But – the democrats lust for power is so great and their zeal for socialism so intense, that I cannot see them allowing their hold on power to be placed in jeopardy by, of all things, an election where the voice of the people is actually heard.

So, the question must be asked: Will Obama and the socialist/democrats in our government suspend, postpone, or “call-off” the Mid Term Election scheduled for this coming November?

First we must remember that Obama promised during the presidential campaign to bring “Fundamental Change” to the United States. I do not believe a person alive in America today could doubt his sincerity when he said that. Plus, the evidence of that fundamental change is right before our eyes, and in our wallets. In less than eighteen months the Obama Regime has managed to take America from a constitutional republic to a socialist republic. That accomplishment alone should give you reason enough to suspect that when their power is threatened they will use the full force of the Central Government to ruthlessly crush any and all who they perceive as a threat. At this moment in history, a threat is anyone, any American, who does not agree with them.

What the Obama Regime needs is a national crisis of some kind, a national emergency, in order to suspend the election in November. There is much talk about the Obama Regime declaring marital law as the result of a national emergency. That would take care of the election.

Next question: Who decides what a national emergency is? You’ve got it — the Obama Regime!

Ok. So now I am worried about a natural disaster such as a major hurricane striking the Eastern Seaboard this summer or this fall. As all of us who live in Hurricane Alley will attest, we know from experience that we are due a major strike.

All right, already! I KNOW this all sounds paranoid as the dickens! But understand this: A little paranoia in the face of danger can save your butt! Lord knows — we are starring danger in the face every day the Obama Regime enjoys in power.

Will there actually be a Mid Term Election this year? I honesty wish I could answer affirmatively, but I fear the raw power on which the democrats are drunk may decide that for us. Understand this: there is nothing as dangerous to freedom in the US as a Progressive (Socialist) Democratic Party inebriated on raw power.

I can say this: The American people are a patient people. We will put up with a lot of nonsense from our government – for a while. But we draw the line when that government ignores the constitution, as the Obama Regime and the Democrats in the Congress have done. There is a seething rage in America today. It has cut to the quick many a patriotic American’s soul. There is a tidal wave of unrequited anger, roiled up and posed, ready to fling itself at a government it sees as a threat to America’s freedom and liberty. Woe be unto him who is caught in the deluge.

Look, some of us have a knack, a talent, a curse, call it what you will, of sensing huge changes around us well before they actually occur.

During the past few months I have sensed a change in the American atmosphere. Where there was anger, there is now rage. Believe me, there is a HUGE difference between anger and rage. Both are great motivators. but motivation by anger can be considered and well thought out. On the other hand, motivation by rage (or outrage) is often not well considered and thought out. It is more akin to lashing out, and is, therefore, to be avoided when it is possible.

But, my senses tell me it is too late to avoid the “lashing out” Americans are about to unleash.

Why do I even bring this up? I bring this up because — at this very moment that tidal wave of anger and outrage is damed up, increasing in power and intensity, waiting, just waiting, for an incident that will knock the chocks from the dam wall holding back the cascade. Postponing, or suspending, the Mid-Term Election, currently scheduled for this coming November, would be the spark that ignites a firestorm that will consume all in its path.

But those in our nations legislature, intoxicated on their acquisition of more and more raw power, haven’t seemed to notice the shadow of liberty loving Americans looming over them as they celebrate.

Elections are a sort of safety valve in America. Without a safety valve to release unwanted pressure a boiler would soon explode. This coming Mid Term Election, in November, is one of the most important safety valves ever to exist. Shut it, remove it, or disable it, and believe me, the boiler will explode with unimaginable force.

If America was one huge computer, we could simply “reboot.” Of course we cannot do that – but many are saying we CAN “reset.” That is the aim of Americans in the coming Mid Term Election.

The federal government MUST be brought back under the control of the citizens and limited to only that power, and those particular powers, granted by the US Constitution. If Americans can accomplish that — then most everything else can readily be taken care of — and a return to constitutional republicanism in America restored.
I don’t even want to think about what will happen if we are unsuccessful in saving and restoring America at the ballot box in November. It MUST happen if America is to survive.

Remember in November!

Brown Destroys One Party State

Scott Brown and the independent voters of Massachusetts delivered a devastating blow to the Democrat parties strangle hold on the state, defeating machine candidate Martha Coakley 52% to 47% and seizing the Senatorial seat vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy. The immediate effect was that the Democrats have lost their filibuster proof supermajority (60%) in the Senate. The last time Massachusetts sent a Republican to represent them in the US Senate was 1972. This astonishing repudiation of the Democrats national agenda and in particular their ramrodding of health care down our throats has Democrats and their media allies literally freaking out. During his victory speech last night Brown proclaimed, “When there is trouble in Massachusetts there is trouble everywhere and they know it.”

Despite a flurry of last minute negative advertisements, an emergency stumping trip by Obama over the weekend, and threats by one liberal commentator that he would “cheat to keep these bastards out” by voting ten or twenty times, Brown was pushed by a Tea party type surge over the top to a decisive victory. This despite being behind Coakley by double digits in the polls just one month ago. Brown who is also a Lieutenant Colonel and thirty year veteran of the Massachusetts National Guard ignored a lot of personal nastiness by the desperate liberals and stated, “We ran a clean issues oriented upbeat campaign.” In particular he promised to stop the Democrats health care plan and free the Democrats feudal grip on the so called “Kennedy seat” and return it to the people of Massachusetts.

Democrats whose seats are in contest during the midterm elections this year have all felt the shadow of possible if not probable defeat pass over them. Reacting to his fellow Democrats threats to drag out the paperwork and procedural steps required to certify and seat Senator elect Brown, Senator Jim Webb (D)Virginia served notice to his party not to rush forward recklessly in an attempt to pass health care before Brown is seated. Senator Webb issued the following statement last night:

“In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process. It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated.”

Brown’s victory will make it harder for the Democrats to enact their agenda unchallenged but we still have many battles that must be fought and won. It is still possible for them to pass some version of their health care plan either by using a procedure called reconciliation that only requires 51 votes. They could also attempt to go forward by having the House pass the Senate’s version of the health care plan. Yet pushing the current health care plan forward against the clear and vocal resistance of the American people and in particular the discontent of independent voters who were instrumental in Obama’s election is playing with a fire that could burn the Democratic house down for a generation.

Over the weekend the ever aloof Obama tried to ridicule Brown for driving a pickup truck around the state while campaigning. During his victory speech Brown addressed Obama crowing, “Would you like me to drive the truck down to Washington so you can see it?” Unlike many of our legislative “overlords” Brown does not come from a privileged background and his GM pickup truck isn’t a campaign gimmick, it is his very own 201,000 mile veteran ride. Last night Brown proclaimed of health care reform, “We can do better” to which the crowd spontaneously replied “Yes we can”. Now it is the Democrats and their socialist supporters time to choke on change.

Why? The GOP is scared witless that Palin will be the first presidential candidate of the Tea Party in America. If that should happen, she will split the republican electorate, take a slew of votes away from the GOP candidate, and, most likely, insure another victory for the Democrats. However, Palin's possible Tea Party candidacy would suddenly boost the power of those members of the GOP electorate who subscribe to the Tea Party's conservative philosophy.

WesternFront America

Passion over Palin

I have had some reaction to the piece I wrote on Sarah Palin recently… some good — some not good. The one thing all comments had, however, was passion. Either the commenter hated her with a passion, or the commenter loved her with a passion. There does not seem to be any middle ground when it comes to Sarah Palin. I am STILL asking why? She has become a polarizing figure.

OK, so maybe I am just thick-headed. Heck, I’ll even admit to that. But for the life of me, I cannot see how Ms. Palin, of whom, I had barely heard a word prior to the announcement of her candidacy as McCain’s running mate, could come out of the frozen north, still thought of by some as America’s frontier, and create so much controversy. THAT was one thing. But AFTER the election, after everyone had gone home, after the party was over, after the lights had been turned out, the bad press just never seemed to stop, or even lessen. Her family problems are the very same problems American families all over the country deal with every day. I am convinced the left made a serious error in judgement by making an issue of the Palin family problems. It created sympathy for the Palins and disgust in conservatives for what was perceived as unwarranted intrusion, by the media, into a family’s private affairs.

As far as Alaska politics are concerned… I am a Carolina boy. We know a little something about bare knuckles politics here in Dixie. Take a look at the trouble our former NC governor is facing currently. Then swing your gaze southward to our sister state and the trouble the SC governor is in currently. It gets down and dirty in the Carolinas when politics are involved. So, the political machinations of Alaska’s politics, and politicians, made little, if any, impression on me.

As I said in an earlier piece, it DID trouble me that she quit, but, since I have no investment in what Ms. Palin does, or does not do now, or in the future, I did not give it a second thought. It is politics. I moved on.

It seems to me that a neutral observer of the late presidential campaign would have to agree that the “negative” press coverage of Ms. Palin was a bit of “overkill.” As a card-carrying member of the press for many years, I saw very little subtlety in the way the MSM went after Ms. Palin. It appeared to me to be very nearly a quest to defame her in any way they could so as to render her a neutral threat to their man, Obama, for whom, they were, and are, deeply in the tank.

In the end, it did not seem to matter, one way or the other, for the GOP ticket was doomed from the beginning, long before the voters had heard of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate on John McCain’s ticket. For at least two years this old southern boy had been declaring that Senator McCain would never be President of the United States. I am not clairvoyant, I have no crystal ball, and I assure you I am no prophet. What I DO have is knowledge of my fellow southern conservatives.

You see, the day McCain “dissed” the Confederate Battle Flag, any chance he had to garner the bulk of the southern conservative vote was ended. As he had done that just a few years prior to the 2008 campaign, the time he spent campaigning in the south during the 2008 campaign was wasted effort. His status as a “RINO” pretty much slammed the door on any chance he MAY have had.

But THIS is what peaked my interest in Palin. After the election and the Obama win, the Mainstream Media continued their campaign to “Get Palin!” Many southern conservatives, and other conservatives across the land, did not like what they were seeing. (Allow me to add that not ALL conservatives saw it that way. There are a number of conservatives, southern conservatives among them who feel Ms Palin is a phony, to put it bluntly.) It was interpreted by many as an obvious campaign to destroy any credibility Ms. Palin had or might have as a candidate for ANYTHING in the future. Conservatives saw it as sure sign of fear from the left. They quickly became convinced that nothing else could, nor can, account for the zeal of the left in attacking and going after Ms. Palin. What are they afraid of?

The school of thought on that particular question that I tend to lean toward is this: When the political left saw the attraction of conservatives to Ms. Palin, the same conservatives who were supposed to stay home on election day, they panicked. They had to DO something. And they did. They attacked.

The unrelenting attack on Palin by the left is what has stirred my interest. Had they backed off after the election and stirred clear of Ms. Palin, she would not be nearly as popular today as she is. At least that is my opinion. The cacophony of anti-Palin drum beating, by the left, has drawn the attention of many, many, conservatives who ordinarily would have moved on until the next election campaign or cycle. But the left has kept the attention of conservatives on Palin and drawn many more to the Palin camp as sympathizers.

Now the Republican Party has climbed aboard the “Get Palin” train. Why? The GOP is scared witless that Palin will be the first presidential candidate of the Tea Party in America. If that should happen, she will split the republican electorate, take a slew of votes away from the GOP candidate, and, most likely, insure another victory for the Democrats. However, Palin’s possible Tea Party candidacy would suddenly boost the power of those members of the GOP electorate who subscribe to the Tea Party’s conservative philosophy. They most certainly would be invited to sit at the table with the high “muckity-mucks” of the GOP and actually have a say in what the GOP does. But, we warn fellow conservatives. This is a power play that will have a high cost. I am convinced it will cost the GOP, and the Tea Party, the White House in 2012.

If the GOP is serious about retaking the Congress and the White House they had better bite the bullet and work with Palin (as bitter a pill as that might be to swallow) and the Tea Party — not against them. The tide amongst conservative and Independent voters is toward a conservative replacement for the current occupant of the White House and as many current occupants of the House and Senate as possible.

If the GOP goes to war with Palin, the GOP WILL lose… in more ways than one. They will most certainly lose in the Mid-Term elections, this November, and they will absolutely lose their bid for the White House in 2012 — and they will lose a huge chunk of their electorate who will move over, officially, to the Tea Party. Going after Palin is not an option to be considered by the GOP as tempting as it may seem.

Palin may be a “penny match phenomenon.” She may flare up suddenly, producing lots of heat and light, then die down slowly, and eventually go out. I have no way of knowing and I don’t want to guess.

I believe today, the Sarah Palin we see on our TV screens hawking her book, and now as a contributor to the Fox News Channel, is there as a result of the unrelenting efforts of the political left in America. There is no need for the GOP to pile on. Besides, the left is far better at character assassination than the GOP ever could be. The GOP just looks foolish when they try.

Now, here’s the thing: If, in the future, Ms. Palin should become a Congressperson, a Senator, Vice-President, or even President, the political left in America will have only to look in a mirror to discover on whom to place the responsibility for her success. At least, that is my opinion.

Move along, nothing to see here…

Pardon me while I gloat. I know that when Republicans win an election we are supposed to apologize to Democrats for interrupting the march toward a bright and glorious future, but I can’t help myself.

Tuesday’s election results were the perfect outcome. Republican wins in the governor’s race in Virginia and New Jersey put Blue Dog Dems on notice that the natives are restless and the loss in New York lets the White House continue to delude themselves that they just need to keep on, keepin’ on.

What a welcome change to vote for a candidate who wins big. After writing in Tom Tancredo and Sarah Palin during the last two presidential elections, checking the box for Bob McDonnell for governor of Virginia finally put me on the winning side.

And for once, I’m not alone. Polling showed that 41 percent of McDonnell voters were “very enthusiastic” about his candidacy. In contrast with 2008 surveys that showed the choice between voting for John McCain and volunteering for a clinical study of dysentery drugs was a toss–up for conservative Republicans.

Initially I thought Republicans wouldn’t get to enjoy the victory for long. White House blame shifters already tossed Deeds under the bus last week, claiming his failure to fully embrace Obama caused his defeat.

Instead Obama’s busy spinmeisters began peddling the story to a credulous mainstream media that the only off–year election that really counts is in New Jersey where Gov. Jon Corzine did everything but offer to invest Obama’s Nobel winnings on Wall Street.

Oops, in another example of Obama Administration acumen the Dems managed to lose New Jersey, too! Of course the Washington Post assures us there’s nothing to see here, in fact one headline reads “No Referendum on Obama,” but in both states voters who in fact used the election as a referendum on Obama voted against him.

That’s what makes the New Jersey loss so telling. Democrat registration there outnumbers Republican 34 percent to 20 percent, the legislature is overwhelmingly Democrat, all statewide officials are Democrats, the Congressional delegation is Democrat, the incumbent governor is a Democrat enjoying all the advantages of incumbency, Obama carried the state by 57 percent, the Republican candidate is fat and has a lousy jump shot. Yet he still won by five points!

When Barack puts the full Obama on the voters and his man still loses in an overwhelmingly Democrat state, it’s time to start drawing up a seating chart for the lifeboats.

Wouldn’t you like to be a Democrat incumbent on Wednesday morning knowing your political fate was in the hands of the Three Stooges: Obama, Pelosi & Reid?

Meanwhile, Creigh Deeds the Democrat candidate for governor in VA must feel like a Washington Post “Date Lab” loser who tries everything — runs on the thesis, pledges to raise taxes — and still gets a fake phone number at the end of the evening.

‘Country’ Creigh Deeds just didn’t fit in with those Post metrosexuals no matter how hard he tried. When the Posties made an in–kind campaign contribution with the McDonnell Thesis (a 20–year–old term paper that rivaled the Da Vinci Code for popularity among political archeologists but failed to strike a nerve among actual voters) Deeds took the hint and ran with it. And ran. And ran. And ran it into the ground. The Post finally said McDonnell benefitted from a “lackluster Democratic opponent.” Ouch!

It is a strange election in Virginia when the Democrat runs on social issues. Usually a Democrat will appeal to his party’s base during the primary, shaking hands at abortion mills and hitting the gay bars; then move toward the middle during the general election.

Creigh Deeds did just the opposite. He wins the primary as the moderate and then boards the Wayback machine and sets the destination for 1989.

Deeds talked so much about abortion that I thought Planned Parenthood sponsored his campaign. And I could have sworn I got a robo–call Sunday from Anita Hill.

Talk about going back to the failed policies of the past. The only retro social issues event that Deeds left out was a bra burning.

The Postie political staff is of course appalled by the prospect of a McDonnell victory and has spent the fall warning Virginia voters that if elected McDonnell will govern as a conservative. To which I say, thank God.

McDonnell didn’t have to talk about “hot–button” issues because his record over the years proved the Republican base could trust him. McCain, on the other hand, had a real one–two punch: the base didn’t trust him and the independents thought he was erratic.

It will be comforting next year for VA residents to have a first lady in Richmond with the same last name as the first man. When a married Democrat politician appears in a photo clutching a woman with a different last name it just means the first couple has a “modern marriage” so get used to it. When a Republican appears in the same type of photo, it usually means marital difficulties.
