Yet, it is the mainstreaming of gambling on many levels that has created a culture whereby it has become an acceptable norm for not only corporations but governments in the United States, on both the federal and state levels, to literally invest in the gambling industry, with the recession as the excuse for its necessity.
Currently Virginia is the 24th state to offer a “Choose Life” plate. Since 2000, 520,000 of the plates have been sold nationwide, generating $11 million for pro–life crisis pregnancy centers, adoption services and maternity homes. A mere four states offer a “Choose Death” plate and in Pennsylvania, one of the four, there are only 22 active plates.
America saw sad times during the 50s but there was also much excitement in the North Georgia Mountains. This was the year that the movie ‘I’d Climb the highest Mountain’ was filmed in Georgia’s red clay hills. The 1910 novel that became a movie was written by Georgia’s own Corra Harris and was entitled ‘A Circuit Rider’s Wife.’
We are all living in a diseased and degraded culture. We are all lost in this degenerate age. My point is that we must strive to improve our behavior and fight the “leveling down” by pushing the bar back up. Fight back against the darkness and shine as a beacon to your own loved ones by striving to improve your own character and serve those around you to the best of your ability.
While fully acknowledging the imperfections and shortcomings of Christian institutions and communities in all ages, we claim the heritage of those Christians who defended innocent life by rescuing discarded babies from trash heaps in Roman cities and publicly denouncing the Empire’s sanctioning of infanticide.
To describe what has happened to our nation, and more importantly, our culture, we have to look at the architects of that change. The fact is that our culture has been targeted for decades, and most Americans are completely unaware of the nature of this attack. It has been incremental, and has impacted all of our institutions.
