‘Embryos On Ice’ … And Other Absurdities By Judie Brown
Of all the now familiar terms we have seen and heard applied to preborn children, perhaps the most heartless is “Embryos on ice.”
While the term was coined by a Raleigh, North Carolina News & Observer reporter covering fertility clinics, the idea reappeared just a few days ago in a New York Times article entitled “Parents torn over fate of frozen embryos.”
Father Joseph Illo: “God Requires This Of Me” By Judie Brown
I have been awestruck by the heroic Catholic priests who have asserted Catholic teaching without apology, particularly on the subject of Obama and those Catholics who voted for him. In fact, one might say that there is a new breeze blowing through the Church, and it is so refreshing that I can only pray it becomes a full-force wind.
Texas Takes Friendship To A New Level By Judie Brown
Just a few days ago in Corpus Christi, pro-life activists took to the streets to protest the killing of preborn children. It all started at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and according to news reports, “hundreds of Catholics filled the streets.” In fact, the news item was so heartening that that it reminded me of the old days when protests were in their prime and the media was hard-pressed to ignore them.
God Is Pro-Choice According To Nun By Judie Brown
I couldn’t believe the e-mail that I recently received from a pro-life friend living in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee http://www.archmil.org/, Wisconsin. She told me about a letter written by a nun to the archdiocese.
My friend told me she was “disturbed” to read this letter. She said, “I cannot fathom how a religious sister could not only advocate abortion, but also place her pathetic, misguided ideas into print! What a disgrace! And why would our archdiocesan newspaper even print such garbage?”
Obamaism, Catholicism and Thanksgiving By Judie Brown
When I first read the response of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts to Cardinal Sean O’Malley’s post-election comments about President-elect Obama, I was captivated by their sincere dedication to deception. Clearly, there is a very thin line, in Planned Parenthood’s game book, between trickery and truthfulness, and that line is blurred by refusing to accept responsibility.
CATHOLICISM VS. ‘OBAMAISM’ By Judie Brown
When the Catholic University of America’s Tower reported that during a recent address at the university, His Eminence James Francis Cardinal Stafford criticized President-elect Barack Obama as “aggressive, disruptive and apocalyptic” and said he campaigned on an “extremist anti-life platform,” I can only imagine the cheers that must have risen from the hall. The Tower continued,
CALLING OUT OBAMA By Judie Brown
A recent Associated Press report tells the reader that “the nation’s Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights, saying the church [sic] and religious freedom could be under attack in the new presidential administration.”
INDICTING INDICATORS: CATHOLIC YOUTH FOR OBAMA By Judie Brown
Over the years, the Cardinal Newman SocietyOver the years, the Cardinal Newman Society has become synonymous with credible information that contradicts common misconceptions about what it means to be Catholic in today’s culture. CNS describes its efforts as being focused on “renewing and strengthening Catholic identity at America’s 224 Catholic colleges and universities.”
BISHOPS AND VOTING — CONFUSION OR CLARITY? By Judie Brown
Bishop Martino has defined, better than most American Catholic bishops this election season, the fundamental teaching of the Catholic Church and the reason why the direct murder of an innocent child prior to birth is so grave that nothing – I daresay nothing at all – could possibly make a greater difference to a voter of any stripe.
Americans United For Separation Of Truth From Public Life By Judie Brown
I guess it is no secret to most that the anti-faith organization, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, becomes wildly apoplectic whenever a religious leader speaks out. Especially when those leaders forcefully enunciate the truth of what the Catholic Church teaches through the guidance of Christ and the magisterium of the Church. My, oh my, how they do protest!
CATHOLICS MUST UNDERSTAND THEIR VOTING PRIORITIES By Judie Brown
I was not going to write a commentary on this subject because, as you probably have guessed by now, I cannot talk about candidates due to the tax status of American Life League and our focus on principle, not politics. It has always been my view that any man or woman who occupies the White House or is elected to any other public office will not end abortion until the majority of Americans recognize the child in the womb as a person, rather than a political issue.
RITTER, PERSONHOOD AND DECEPTION By Judie Brown
I am always concerned when public figures who claim to be Catholic make a point of denying Church teaching, or even worse, misrepresenting it for political gain. This is particularly true when the question involves the identity of the preborn child and his inherent right to life.
Such has been the case during these past few days with Colorado’s governor, Democrat and “Catholic” Bill Ritter. On the capitol steps, he spoke at a pro-abortion media event during which he asserted,
ARCHBISHOP DONALD WUERL AND THE WORLD By Judie Brown
Today is the day we run our full-page ad in the Washington Times weekly edition. It is a full-color ad in which we pay tribute to the 16 Catholic bishops who have chosen to protect Christ from sacrilege by enforcing Church law, specifically Canon 915.
In the ad, we ask Archbishop Donald Wuerl ,of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., when he will join with these bishops.
CATHOLIC BISHOPS, HEROISM and VITRIOL By Judie Brown
So much has arrived in my e-mail recently on the conflict between courageous preaching and the hate speech of those who find religion nauseating that I decided to write about it. What inspires me to do this is that it paints a clear picture of what we in the pro-life movement are up against when it comes to setting forth truth in a world intoxicated with nonsense.
A BRAD PITT MOMENT By Judie Brown
A few days ago, I had a very strange experience. While reading a news report about Brad Pitt’s donation of “$100,000 to fight California’s November ballot proposal that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage,” I noticed the following statement from Mr. Pitt:
Vatican to “debate” organ transplantation? Brain death? By Judie Brown
It has come as a surprise to some that the Pontifical Academy for Life is co-hosting a November 2008 conference with the theme “A Gift for Life.” I have known that the conference has been on the drawing board for some months now. This past June, when concerns were first expressed to me, I, as an Academy member, joined with Professor Joseph Seifert to ask the Academy’s leadership to reconsider the topic of the conference and perhaps postpone it until Academy members could discuss concerns privately in a closed-door meeting.
Aborting Nancy Pelosi’s Unholy Communion By John Kakistos Lillpop
Nancy Pelosi is an intrepid progressive who rarely deviates from the basic tenets of liberalism, including devout worship of abortion rights, the Holy Grail of liberalism.
She is also a Catholic, a fact that would appear to be in direct conflict with her stance on abortion. In a recent stint on Meet the Press, Pelosi was asked to reconcile the conflict by host Tom Brokaw.
The Gospel, According to the Book of Nancy By John Kakistos Lillpop
Rarely has Nancy Pelosi been mistaken for a brilliant thinker or a heavy weight in intellectual circles. In fact, calling the Shreeker of the US House an “air head” would be an insult to air everywhere, and a gross exaggeration of her intellectual prowess as well.
