Judie Brown is co-founder and president of the American Life League, a pro-life educational organization dedicated to the total protection of all innocent human beings from fertilization to natural death. ALL has over 300,000 families sponsoring our work.
Maudlin Mumbling By Judie Brown
By literally politicizing the question of ending murderous acts against innocent preborn children, we did in fact confuse the question. Pro-lifers juxtaposed an expectant mother’s ethics (or lack thereof) toward her preborn baby with electing people of a particular party to advance the pro-life agenda. That agenda began in 1973, with a commitment to ending abortion period – no exceptions, no compromise.
THE FINAL CONFRONTATION: WHO WILL SEE IT? WHO WILL CARE? By Judie Brown
Perhaps the situation pro-life Americans currently face epitomizes what the Holy Father was telling us then. There are many reasons for believing that this confrontation has reached a critical point, but the most telling is that the vast majority of Christians have lost sight of the fact that, fundamentally, there is no respect for the dignity of human person – born or preborn.
Reproduction . . . and we don’t mean chickens By Judie Brown
I have always been fascinated by the manner in which our opponents couch their arguments. This is particularly true in the “field” of reproductive health, which is a fairly new area of medical specialty and is fully supported and encouraged by every anti-life scientist known to man.
CALLING OUT OBAMA By Judie Brown
A recent Associated Press report tells the reader that “the nation’s Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights, saying the church [sic] and religious freedom could be under attack in the new presidential administration.”
Protect Christ From Sacrilege? By Judie Brown
It seems that the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will not be addressing the enforcement of Canon 915, let alone the failure that resulted in 52 percent of Catholics voting for a totally pro-abortion president!
In a news story published on November 7, we learned that “the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has scuttled plans to discuss abortion and politics next week in Baltimore, according to spokeswoman Sister Mary Ann Walsh.”
INDICTING INDICATORS: CATHOLIC YOUTH FOR OBAMA By Judie Brown
Over the years, the Cardinal Newman SocietyOver the years, the Cardinal Newman Society has become synonymous with credible information that contradicts common misconceptions about what it means to be Catholic in today’s culture. CNS describes its efforts as being focused on “renewing and strengthening Catholic identity at America’s 224 Catholic colleges and universities.”
MAYHEM, MADNESS and MEANNESS By Judie Brown
As Americans devoted to defending the innocent continue to reel from the election results, there are a few things that bear consideration as we move forward. The first is that the course we set must not be based on despair or fear, but rather on hope and confidence. Though it may sound trite, given the sheer magnitude of what Obama might accomplish, it is nonetheless true that nobody beats God, and that should be our rallying point.
LESSONS YET UNLEARNED: ELECTION ‘08 and PRINCIPLE By Judie Brown
It should have come as no surprise that Americans voted their pocketbooks and their distaste for war, which is how it came to pass that on November 4, 2008, the nation elected the most rabidly pro-abortion politician in its history. Thus, the charisma of an appeal for “change” could become the death knell for even more preborn babies. As this epoch unfolds, it can only be hoped that November 4, 2008 will not go down as a day of infamy for the preborn, as the pro-life movement now wrestles with how to revamp its strategy.
RACY RUBBISH vs. REAL-TIME ROMANCE By Judie Brown
Anita Chandra, a Rand Corporation behavioral scientist, just released a new study that the media is touting as “groundbreaking research.”
Apparently, Chandra has discovered something many of us have known for years, but because of her credentials, her findings are getting coverage, though to describe it as objective coverage would be a bit off the mark.
THE EVIL GARDENER OR THE BIOETHICS GURU? By Judie Brown
Bioedge is giving all of us something to think about that, frankly, has nothing to do with elections, politics or voting. Aside from being alarming for those of us who respect the ethical framework within which all scientific research should be pursued, the report you are about to read is acutely painful to contemplate but not very hard to believe.
ELECTION REFLECTION By Judie Brown
I just finished reading another commentary on the upcoming elections. It is said that this is a defining moment in our nation’s history, not to mention the history of the pro-life movement. Some even say that all that we mere human beings have accomplished politically in the fight’s brief, nearly-40-year history could be totally undone.
MIND FREAKS IN SCIENCE By Judie Brown
One of my favorite magicians is Criss Angel http://www.crissangel.com/One of my favorite magicians is Criss Angel http://www.crissangel.com/. His ability to draw the viewer into the most amazing illusions is seconded only by his peer, David Blaine http://www.davidblaine.com/. The kind of “magic” they perform has earned Angel the title “the Mind Freak.”
IS FORCED DEATH COMING TO WASHINGTON STATE . . .AGAIN? By Judie Brown
Protecting the vulnerable, the ill and the dying is a never-ending struggle for each of us who realize that a human being’s life, including one’s own life, is a gift from God and not a thing to be used or abused at will. So, in this politically volatile year, I believe it is time for every person with the right to vote and a properly formed conscience to assess carefully what President Ronald Reagan once said. …
TECHNO-BABIES: PROPERTY OR PERSONS? By Judie Brown
The recent Oregon divorce case that has made its way through the state courts has brought to light, yet again, the convoluted problems that arise when man attempts, even for an allegedly worthy cause, to play God. The case in question involved a husband and his estranged wife, one of whom wants the human embryos resulting from in vitro fertilization treatments to be saved, and the other who wants them killed. As it turns out, it was the mother who wanted the children killed because “she did not want someone else raising the children if they were carried to term.”
BISHOPS AND VOTING — CONFUSION OR CLARITY? By Judie Brown
Bishop Martino has defined, better than most American Catholic bishops this election season, the fundamental teaching of the Catholic Church and the reason why the direct murder of an innocent child prior to birth is so grave that nothing – I daresay nothing at all – could possibly make a greater difference to a voter of any stripe.
HAZMAT FOR THE SOUL By Judie Brown
hazmat: a material (as flammable or poisonous [emphasis added] material) that would be a danger to life or to the environment if released without precautions.Sometimes the obvious is not clear to those listening to or reading an item of interest. For example, facts can be presented in such a way that a topic’s flip side is shrouded by glowing words and phrases.
SOLIDARITY: A SIGN OF HOPE FOR PRO-LIFE STALWARTS By Judie Brown
It is truly amazing to realize that not only have the prayers been working, but little babies are being saved from abortion and 40 Days for Life is energizing thousands of people in ways that will eventually change the way America sees abortion.
THE GOOD, THE BAD and THE UGLY: A Down Syndrome Tale By Judie Brown
The news I bring to your attention today is not, to my mind, just another of those heart-wrenching accounts of the ways in which Down syndrome children are annihilated before birth. For some reason, it struck a chord in my heart that cried out for release.
Today’s column is a response to several news reports on Down syndrome and related subjects. I guess it all started with the statistical report that 90 percent of mothers who learn from prenatal testing that their baby has Down syndrome will opt for the premature death of their child by abortion.
RAPE, BABIES AND PURISTS! By Judie Brown
I learn a great deal from pro-life Americans each and every day. One of the things I learn is that whenever some of us look at a political loss, we tell ourselves that we have to do something different to win next time, even if it means weakening our moral position. When we do this, we feel good if we do win, but we don’t take the time to examine the problematic nature of what we have chosen to do in light of our ultimate goal.
Fraud Or Business As Usual? By Judie Brown
Fraud: intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right.
It is not often that I get so excited about an American Life League Action Alert that I have to write a commentary on it, but today is just such a day. You see, the headline itself sets the stage: “Statutory Rape-Hiding Planned Parenthood to Receive Thousands: Help Stop Misuse of Tax Dollars.”
Americans United For Separation Of Truth From Public Life By Judie Brown
I guess it is no secret to most that the anti-faith organization, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, becomes wildly apoplectic whenever a religious leader speaks out. Especially when those leaders forcefully enunciate the truth of what the Catholic Church teaches through the guidance of Christ and the magisterium of the Church. My, oh my, how they do protest!
RECENT MEDIA SKULLDUGGERY By Judie Brown
Skullduggery: underhanded or unscrupulous behavior; also: a devious device or trick.
It’s with ever-increasing frequency that I read about things that should be on the front page of America’s newspapers and the lead story on television news programs, but are relegated to the trash heap of truths that need not be revealed. Today is no exception.
CATHOLICS MUST UNDERSTAND THEIR VOTING PRIORITIES By Judie Brown
I was not going to write a commentary on this subject because, as you probably have guessed by now, I cannot talk about candidates due to the tax status of American Life League and our focus on principle, not politics. It has always been my view that any man or woman who occupies the White House or is elected to any other public office will not end abortion until the majority of Americans recognize the child in the womb as a person, rather than a political issue.
SOUTH DAKOTA’S ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM By Judie Brown
All Words tells us that an “elephant in the room” is an idiom for “a problem or difficult issue that is very obvious, but is ignored for the convenience or comfort of those involved.”
In the case of the South Dakota’s Measure 11 ballot initiative, the elephant in the room for pro-life individuals and organizations is the possible enshrinement of many abortion laws into state law.
DEVASTATING DICHOTOMIES By Judie Brown
Dichotomy: “division into two mutually exclusive, opposed, or contradictory groups.”
That is the most polite word I can thing of to describe the antics of the pro-death forces, which are moving ever so stealthily in their efforts to remove certain segments of the population from the land of the living. What you are about to read is not fiction; it is real, and it is happening right now in America.

I am always concerned when public figures who claim to be Catholic make a point of denying Church teaching, or even worse, misrepresenting it for political gain. This is particularly true when the question involves the identity of the preborn child and his inherent right to life.
Such has been the case during these past few days with Colorado’s governor, Democrat and “Catholic” Bill Ritter. On the capitol steps, he spoke at a pro-abortion media event during which he asserted,
THE ‘GOD MOMENT’ AT THE SUPREME COURT By Judie Brown
If you have visited the American Life League web site in the past day, you have seen the video of our own Marie Hahnenberg and know that our annual Pro-Life Memorial Day observance in front of the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. was a tremendous success. There were 12 organizations of national stature that joined with American Life League in remembering those millions of preborn children who have died by chemical, medical and surgical abortion.
Hello Tree, I am a Human Being! By Judie Brown
Tom Szyszkiewicz has always been one of my favorite Catholic reporters. While I could not pronounce his last name if you paid me to do it, I find his writing remarkably insightful and astute. His articles are always intriguing, and he has a habit of exposing little-known facts about such subjects as why some Catholic dioceses have banned the distribution of Catholic Answers’ Voter’s Guide for Serious Catholics.
ARCHBISHOP DONALD WUERL AND THE WORLD By Judie Brown
Today is the day we run our full-page ad in the Washington Times weekly edition. It is a full-color ad in which we pay tribute to the 16 Catholic bishops who have chosen to protect Christ from sacrilege by enforcing Church law, specifically Canon 915.
In the ad, we ask Archbishop Donald Wuerl ,of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., when he will join with these bishops.
IS YOUR LIFE A LEGAL QUESTION? By Judie Brown
Yesterday, Lillie Reynolds’ grandson lost his life in a tragic automobile crash.
Logan Troy Taylor was living in his mother’s womb, was eight months of age and was somehow ripped from his mother’s womb during the crash. This is a very sad story, as are all those involving the deaths of preborn babies, but this one has a twist to it.
TILLER THE “HEALER”? By Judie Brown
It seems sort of oxymoronic to read a news report that starts with the following sentence:
A complaint has been filed with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts demanding the emergency suspension of the medical licenses of George R. Tiller and Shelley Sella, whose involvement in a late-term abortion last week nearly cost the life of a 23-year old woman.
1Oct2008 | Judie Brown | 0 comments | ContinuedCATHOLIC BISHOPS, HEROISM and VITRIOL By Judie Brown
So much has arrived in my e-mail recently on the conflict between courageous preaching and the hate speech of those who find religion nauseating that I decided to write about it. What inspires me to do this is that it paints a clear picture of what we in the pro-life movement are up against when it comes to setting forth truth in a world intoxicated with nonsense.
BIRTH CONTROL MERCHANTS By Judie Brown
The news from the reproductive health front is not good these days for preborn children, but is for those who cash in on the sexually transmitted disease, sterility and unplanned pregnancy market. Those who profit on ignorance and pain appear to be having a very good economic surge and are campaigning hard for even more money.
Gloomy Gus Would Be in Tears! By Judie Brown
The 1904 comic strip character Gloomy GusWe learned that Louisiana state Representative John LaBruzzo, a Republican, is so concerned about poverty that he has made a startling recommendation: He wants to pay poor women $1,000 to have their tubes tied, though he did admit that his plan might be a hard sell in the state legislature. Perhaps it is no coincidence that he hails from the same district as white supremacist David Duke.
F.O.C.A.: FOCAL POINT OF PRO-ABORT FULL-COURT PRESS By Judie Brown
Hidden behind the headlines, but rarely discussed in polite company, is the dire measure pro-abortion forces are committed to enacting because the personhood movement has become a real threat to their deadly agenda. Hardly anybody talks about the Freedom of Choice Act these days, but SOME rumblings have started. I am grateful to Cardinal Justin Rigali , Committee on Pro-Life Activities chairman for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, for exposing this danger.
ABORTING TRUTH By Judie Brown
Many Americans will welcome the news that there are fewer abortions, particularly among teens, and that a larger proportion of abortions are now happening very early in pregnancy. But at the same time, abortions are becoming more concentrated among women of color and low-income women.
The Ugly Side of Dying By Judie Brown
Let’s start off with Britain’s Baroness Mary Warnock. You may recall her involvement in promoting reproductive technology, including human cloning. In 2002, she pleased her American counterparts by stating her belief that there are no “major ethical obstacles” to reproductive cloning for medical purposes. In fact, she claimed that infertile couples could benefit from it, asserting, “If it becomes a procedure which is . . . safe then it seems to me there needs to be a lot of thought before it is absolutely ruled out.”
A BRAD PITT MOMENT By Judie Brown
A few days ago, I had a very strange experience. While reading a news report about Brad Pitt’s donation of “$100,000 to fight California’s November ballot proposal that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage,” I noticed the following statement from Mr. Pitt:
PERSONS OR PROBLEMS? COLORADO HAS TO CHOOSE! By Judie Brown
At American Life League, we have spent nearly 30 years trying in every way we can to humanize the preborn baby, even when he is a single-cell zygote. We have challenged those who deny the personhood of the preborn to explain what precisely is different between the way their life began and the way every person’s life begins.
POLITICS AND THE ART OF ARROGANCE By Judie Brown
I am constantly amazed when I listen to the wide variety of comments that politicians put forth. You know as well as I do that their goal is to garner votes, win a place in history and, if they do win, do what they please, which is often not what they promised. I guess this has been a problem for as long as there have been politicians.
STOOPING TO HONOR STOPES By Judie Brown
Perhaps you have never heard of her before, but she was at the forefront of spreading the culture of death in the United Kingdom. She was a huge fan of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, the women’s rights pioneer who endeared herself to every aficionado of sexual perversion throughout the United States. From what I know of Stopes, she imitated Maggie right down the line.
