A few days after the election, Conservative leaders met, quietly, in Virginia to draw up battle plans for the fight against Obama and the leftward sprint of Congress. This meeting is said to be the first of many such confabs over the next few weeks. It there was just one topic of discussion I would suggest for them it would be whether conservatives should remain in the GOP or break free and form their own party.

The Praetorian Guard was a special force of household troops used by Roman Emperors. Augustus saw the need to establish a troop of soldiers loyal only to him. After Sejanus’ death the Guards became ambitious and began a deadly power play in the Empire. They assassinated emperors, bullied their own Prefects, and eventually turned on the people of Rome.

Yep! By all accounts that is exactly what happened. It happened on Friday of last week at a town hall style gathering when McCain tried to calm a man concerned about raising his child with Obama as President. McCain is reported to have said that Barack Obama “… is a “decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States.” It was at about this point in the McCain Campaign when the McCain train went completely off the rails it was only partially on up to that point.

Conservative voters have been loath to support the McCain ticket. Without the support of conservatives a GOP candidate can forget victory in a Presidential campaign. Without that conservative support there is no “fire” in the campaign. The fighting spirit, which rests almost entirely with conservatives on the right, simply is not there. You cannot have missed the lack of zest and zeal in the McCain Campaign. You don’t see it because… it isn’t there.

I was thinking the other day as I read, listened to, and watched all the dismal poll data showing the republican candidate for president down and falling in the polls… where have I seen this before? Well, it didn’t take long to find out. It was the Reagan/Carter race back in the 1980 election. As unlikely as it may seem, looking back on it from this vantage point, that race was a cliffhanger until less than 72 hours before the vote. And then the dam burst for Reagan.

For obvious reasons that has a lot of people concerned.

Blasphemy is defined as: Irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable; The act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for any religion’s deity or deities; The act of claiming the attributes of a deity.

The MsM was all “a-twitter” a few days ago about some poll, or other, in Europe, which demonstrated that Europeans wanted Obama to be the next President of the US. Problem is… the folks in the US heard about that poll and they/we bristled.

I hate this time of year! It’s hurricane season for those of us who live in Hurricane Alley, right on the bulls-eye. Unlike the folks on the central Gulf Coast, who watch the southern horizon, we continually glance toward the eastern horizon. Two things of note come to us from the east: gorgeous sunrises… and devastating killer storms. We prefer the former, but, unfortunately, we get the latter, far too often, here in the geographic location known as the “Catcher’s Mitt” of the East Coast.
