In all my life I have never seen such intense emotion surrounding a leader as that evoked by Barack Obama. Even Ronald Reagan, the Gipper himself, didn’t enjoy the kind of prostration of the will offered to the president-elect by hordes of followers. Yet, while people the world over are imbued with “hope” and chant Obama’s slogan “Yes, we can!” – for instance, the French are using their translation of it, “Oui, nous pouvons!” – some of the intense emotion is of a very different species.
You Cannot Embrace Socialism and Still Be American By Guest
An American is an individual. He is responsible for himself, and for his family. He works hard, uses his head and becomes a success, however he defines it. If he finds himself in some rough times, he turns to the community. Family, churches and charities are there to offer support, whether it be food, a place to rest his head, or simple reassurance that this too shall pass. They don’t have to. They want to. And he accepts their charity thankfully and puts it to use. He continues to move forward until he becomes a success. Once a success, he begins to give back to the community.

An article in the St. Petersberg Times, quotes Cichon as having said, “I can’t imagine having a black president . . .”
In a phone interview Saturday, Sandra Cichon of Spring Hill, Florida denied that she ever spoke with any pollster or reporter concerning Obama or about anything regarding race. Cichon was taken by surprise when phoned by this reporter, and she was not aware that she had been quoted in any newspaper.

Our civilization is decadent, and our language — so the arguments runs — must inevitably share in the general collapse.
