Terrorists, Criminals and Mad Coyotes
… Why we should fight for our Freedoms.
Over the past few years, the author has attended school in the hopes to graduate with a Ph.D. in Social Psychology (a minor in Criminal Justice/ Juvenile Crime.) Over this course of time, several interesting things have been discovered. First, freedom is something that not everyone wants. Second, many people do not understand what freedom truly is until they are locked up for committing crimes. Third and lastly, freedoms as pertains to the Constitution have slowly been disappearing being replaced over time with more and more government control. The object of this article is to define freedom, state why we should all be willing to fight for it, and look at a few “bills, decrees and other items” that have began to replace it.
Freedom can be easily defined as, the absence of coercion in ones actions, or the liberation from the power of another. Using this definition ask yourself, when you make choices to not drink before 21, or to apply for outrageously priced auto insurance, or to apply for multiple permits to gain the right to defend yourself, are you doing so without being coerced into it? Alternatively, have the laws been changed and manipulated to reflect a few people’s insecurities and power hungry goals to force you to have things that are not mandated per the constitution? How about for those of you in constant pain, can you choose between pain medications or must you take the most addictive and detrimental ones out there today? How about for those of you who are not heterosexual, what about your legal rights as a citizen of this nation, or do you even have any? Freedom simply means being free, not having to do everything according to what some other person has decided you should. With that being said, are we truly free in this nation?
Why would any of us want this freedom, why would we want to be able to live our lives without worrying if we were breaking some extraneous moral code, or law that was passed simply to appease some morally restricted minority group? Yes, I am talking to all of you, I am talking to the Leftist, “Progressives” who desire to take away my ability to defend myself and replace it with whistles and the phrase, “give them what they want.” I am also talking to the right wing, GOP hardliners who desire to have me become a “Christian,” and if I was homosexual desires me to be straight or not receive the same legal protections as heterosexual people. I am talking to both hardcore sides, and here is the thing, NO MORE, if you have not noticed people are tired of being told what they can and cannot do. As long as my actions do not take away or threaten the security of someone else’s life they are my actions I am ONLY answerable to myself in this case. So tell me why would someone willingly give away their freedoms and trade them for the restricted, socialist crap that BOTH major parties are spewing today?
Lastly, look around over the past several years the United States Federal government has proven several major points. Regardless of who is in power they are incapable of handling our personal lives and should not be allowed that power? The people of this nation must stop them and tell them no more, threaten the government and powers elected with our power to vote them out! Many people have not understood how someone like myself could be apart of the Tea Part movement, I am apart of it because at its core it stands for freedom, and the ability to regain those freedoms we have lost or given away. The government has proven that it also cannot protect the American people from Terrorists, Criminals, or mad coyotes. In fact, by removing, the ability of the law-abiding citizen to carry legally on airplanes the government made it possible for those terrorists to murder several thousand people. And yet, the hard left movement would have you believe that it was the people and not the government, that the gun is at fault and not the people…doublespeak and newspeak- 1984 is here, wake up! Of course rewind a bit and you can see what happens when an ultra-right wing government and leadership gets into office, you have statements of deity and “holy wars” being declared from the White House.
Here is the thing, which do you prefer, the freedom to live and let live, or your friendly neighborhood government checking on you and ensuring that you are doing what it wants? Here in Cochise County many of us have been showing others that we do care, that we want their freedoms as well as our own. March the sixth at Veterans Memorial Park (Ramada 3 next to the Middle School and directly off Fry.), we will be celebrating freedom- listening to numerous people running for City, County, State, and Federal office. Now is your chance to make a change by going and listening and making educated decisions to change the future of this nation for the good of all!
