Oath Keepers Pledge to Uphold Constitution
“The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army” — Gen. George Washington, to his troops before the battle of Long Island”
This quote is taken from the Oathkeepers website. I’ve been aware of them for a few weeks now, but am now finally getting around to doing a post on them. As the name implies, the Oathkeepers believe in keeping their oath to uphold and protect the Constitution. Their oath is in ten statements shown here.
- We will NOT obey any order to disarm the American people.
- We will NOT obey any order to conduct warrantless searches of the American people, their homes, vehicles, papers, or effects — such as warrantless house-to house searches for weapons or persons.
- We will NOT obey any order to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to trial by military tribunal.
- We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state, or to enter with force into a state, without the express consent and invitation of that state’s legislature and governor.
- We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty and declares the national government to be in violation of the compact by which that state entered the Union.
- We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.
- We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.
- We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control” during any emergency, or under any other pretext. We will consider such use of foreign troops against our people to be an invasion and an act of war.
- We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies, under any emergency pretext whatsoever.
- We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.
Here is more from their website.
Oath Keepers is a non partisan association of currently serving military, peace officers, fire-fighters, and veterans who will fulfill our oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.
Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and not to any political party. In the long-standing tradition of the U.S. military, we are apolitical. We don’t care if unlawful orders come from a Democrat or a Republican, or if the violation is bi-partisan. We will not obey unconstitutional (and thus unlawful) and immoral orders, such as orders to disarm the American people or to place them under martial law. We won’t “just follow orders.” Our motto: “Not on Our Watch!” or to put it even more succinctly, in the words of 101st Airborne Commander General Anthony McAuliffe at the Battle of the Bulge, “NUTS!”
There is at this time a debate within the ranks of the military regarding their oath. Some mistakenly believe they must follow any order the President issues. But many others do understand that their loyalty is to the Constitution and to the people, and understand what that means.
The mission of Oath Keepers is to vastly increase their numbers.
We are in a battle for the hearts and minds of our own troops.
Help us win it.
This, in my opinion, is an outstanding development. I am pleased to see that many Americans are choosing to take on the responsibility of actually keeping their oath to protect and uphold the constitution. While that comment may sound sarcastic, that is not the intent. As we all are aware, we are watching an unprecedented attempt by our own government to water down, or outright eliminate many of our individual freedoms. Distrust of the government, particularly at the federal level, is at all time highs. I personally take great comfort that there are people in positions of responsibility willing to take this oath.
I would have to assume that taking this oath might come at some personal risk. Given the federal government’s stance that anyone who disagrees with the POTUS is a terrorist, these people are facing probable investigation. Given the extent to which government officials visit this blog (thanks Stat Counter), it’s not a stretch to believe that the government would also check on the online activities of people that take this oath. Also depending upon the scenario, people taking this oath, and as well as depending upon their employment or service, they could face job loss, imprisonment, court-martial, or other punishments for upholding their oath. These people are taking their oath seriously, perhaps at personal risk to themselves. If you know an Oathkeeper, thank them and support them. If you are in a position that may one day require you to participate in anything described in the Oathkeeper’s statements, please consider taking the oath yourself. Just know that you will have made yourself some powerful enemies in the process.

Real Oath Keepers: Real Homeland Defense
Become a member of one of the largest, fastest growing groups of Active Duty, Retired Veterans, Law Enforcement, and civilian alike; who have affirmed their oath to stand against tyranny in our homeland.
Uh… just so everyone knows…
The Oath that we Oath Keepers take and keep is the Oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
You know…
The one that starts out like this…
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same…
Yeah, THAT one.
The 10 orders that we will not obey (listed in the above article) is NOT the “oath” we take. They simply describe what we WON’T do BECAUSE of the Oath we have taken to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Just wanted everyone to be clear on this.
Well there Eddie. The oath above is one of INACTION on purpose. They want you to sit on your hands and do NOTHING. However, they still want your support pledged to the document that allowed them to destroy us as a nation, i.e. the constitution. People are mostly too ignorant to realize that document is HOW THEY SCREWED US, and defending it means defending their tyranny. They don’t go by 1/10 of what it says anyway, so why do you?
Thankfully REALOATHKEEPERS showed up to change things. http://www.realoathkeepers.org
A nation is made up of PEOPLE, not documents. Who are you pledging to defend, the PEOPLE or the paper?
Absolutely, we MUST support our Constitution!
Well there, RamboOathKeeper (sorry… just can’t bring myself to call you RealOathKeeper).
That’s a real interesting website ya got there.
Seems kinda strange that I can’t really find out any details about your organization unless I give up $29.99 for your book, though. Lot’s of “generalities” about what your “oath” and your “plan” are, but no details unless I pay the $29.99 for your book.
Hmmmm…
Could it be that you’re just trying to sell books?
Nah…
That can’t be it.
After all, you’re a guy whose “oath” is to the PEOPLE, right?
Couple of questions…
Is that just the PEOPLE that can afford the $29.99 for your book?
Does the group of PEOPLE that your “oath” is to protect include Black PEOPLE, or Brown PEOPLE, or Jewish PEOPLE, or Hispanic PEOPLE?
Or are you just a “White PEOPLE” kind of oath keeper? (Yeah… I did my homework on you, Dude!).
Guess I can’t find out unless I buy your $29.99 book, eh?
And as for your cavalier dismissal of the United States Constitution…
What, exactly, do you think Thomas Jefferson (a man you quote quite liberally on your website) would think of your disdain of the document that he and the other Founders of our Republic labored so intensely to craft?
Why do you think they did that? So you could just dismiss it and say that it doesn’t really matter any more? (now… where have I heard THAT before?… Oh yeah, Washington, D.C.).
Why don’t you REALLY get REAL and admit that you’re just trying to make a buck (actually… 29.99 bucks) and call it a day?
Although, I realize that you had to pay a little extra so they wouldn’t list your REAL name in the domain name info.
Hmmmm…
What’s up with THAT?
Oh well, that’s my take on your shenanigans.
(oh, and by the way… If Gunny Ermey ever finds out you’ve got HIS picture on your site… he’s gonna kick your ass, Dude!)
Have a nice day !
When did the RealOathKeepers start? Before or after the book was published?
Scottsdale Arizona is quite a nice place. Been there. The domain names .org and .com started around Sept. 18th 2009. That’s this year!
Not very confident, because you only registered them for one year. I find humor in your site .
Please go away and don’t claim what your not.

@ “real oathkeeper”
Fail liberal propaganda is fail. You state to keep an oath to defend the Constitution, yet you also trash it. You also do not discuss the content of what the Oathkeepers will not do. Are we to understand that you support those things?
@ Mr. Gilbert, my apologies for stating that your list of what you will not do as the oath itself. It was a mistake on my part. Thank you for having our backs!
@ Matt
No sweat, Matt.
It was an understandable error. The ten “Orders We Will Not Obey” DO stand out quite prominently on our main page.
And there’s a reason for that. The reasoning behind those “orders We Will Not Obey” are simply to “pull the teeth and claws of the Tiger”, so to speak. Those active duty Military members and Peace Officers who are willing to “stand down” when an unlawful, unconstitutional order is given would cause “gaps in the line” if The Powers That Be ever overstepped their Constitutional authority and issued such bogus orders.
The last time I checked, no one has ever been gummed to death by a toothless, clawless tiger!
Those “gaps in the line” would be just enough to cause doubt in the minds of TPTB if they’re thinking about “pulling a fast one” on the American people. Trust me, THEY’RE not going to pull off their suits and ties and “gear up” to get on the line!
“Gaps in the line” = “Maybe we should RETHINK this!” in the minds of TPTB.
That’s why I joined Oath Keepers. I’m a former Marine and am currently an active duty Peace Officer. I know it’ll work because I’ve SEEN it work…
…A situation comes up. Orders are given to deal with the situation. Everyone’s getting ready to implement the orders…
Then, JUST ONE guy says: “Hold up guys. This ain’t right!”…
Then, two or three OTHER guys (who were thinking the same thing) say: “Yeah Lieutenant, THIS AIN’T RIGHT!”…
The Lieutenant thinks it over (although he’s pretty pissed that things aren’t going smoothly)…
Then he issues some orders that ARE right…
The mission continues, correctly…
All it takes is for that ONE GUY to stand his ground.
BTDT
Now, I’m all for patriotic organizations and groups working to restore our Country to the Republic that the Founders envisioned. I believe that it’s gonna happen. It’ll take some time, some political action, some education of the citizens, and some real work though, to make it happen.
That’s why I like the idea of Oath Keepers so much. I’m a “bottom-line” kind of guy. The idea behind Oath Keepers is to “draw a line in the sand” that TPTB CAN’T cross while the process is happening.
Hey, what can I say… Bottom line, it keeps everybody honest while the “soup is cooking”!
I am sorry to be so cynical, but, here goes.
When in school, many of my friends were the children of people who survived Germany’s little experiment with the New World Order. Some of those kids were, themselves, ones who got over the border in a hail of gunfire when the Hungarian Uprising came about.
Every one of those parents and kids warned us about the police. They’d be your friend today, smiling, and buying a meal at your restaurant or having a radio mended in your repair shop. The next week, due to a new law, they’d “raus!” you into the trucks and cattle cars, or shoot you in the back “while trying to escape” the next. They obeyed orders.
I do not for one minute think that most of the law enforcement personnel in Oath Keepers will honor their pledge. When told to round up [insert undesirable group here] they will weight their pay and their ego’s need for power over the peasants against principles. I believe their choice will be obvious.
Here we go again – even a positive article on The Oath Keepers brings about negative response. We just can’t win for losing.
First off, we are NOT a militant group. We’re not off in the woods practicing war games. Our mission is to Reach, Teach and Inspire. We are very upfront about our goals and our beliefs and Patriotism. You can go on our website and everything is out in the open for everyone to see. If someone gets out of line or too militant with their comments, they are “invited” to leave the organization.
“Real OathKeepers”, however is a horse of a different color. Try to check out their website and see what they’re all about. Hmmmm – costs you to find out, doesn’t it? Please do NOT confuse the two groups. We are NOT the same. I’ve heard what “Real Oathkeepers” is about, but I admittedly have not spent my hard-earned cash to find out for myself. I don’t know about anyone else, but if a group wants money up front just to reveal to you what they’re about – I don’t have the time of day for them.
The Oath Keepers is a very out front organization and everyone is invited to check out our website at any time.
http://www.oathkeepers.org
I am proud to be a member of The Oath Keepers. I took my first oath when I first enlisted in the Air Force in 1979. I took that same oath a second time when I re-enlisted. The oath that I took has NO EXPIRATION DATE. We all took that oath – to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
To address the concerns of the poster who is cynical of our present-day troops honoring their oath – I really don’t see that as a problem. Today’s troops are much more savvy than yesterday’s, I think. They think for themselves – they have to in combat.
For them to follow an unconstitutional order, such as those described above, would not make sense to them. They all have mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, wives, husbands, sons, daughters, etc., that such orders would affect. I really can’t see the average military person blindly following an order like that.
Just in case, that’s what The Oath Keepers are about. Reminding our military and peace officers, active and retired, of their oath and exactly what it means. Most of us who took that oath took it with full knowledge and understanding. We are Patriots and we are proud of our commitment to the United States Constitution and all that it entails.
Even those of us who are no longer active duty will proudly stand beside your sons and daughters of the current active duty military and peace officers and fully support them in their Constitutional endeavors. Once a Patriot, always a Patriot. They love their country too.
The “troops”, that is, the MILITARY, do not worry me. Only the LEOs, and not all of them.
Well Grizz, you are correct in stating that: “Every one of those parents and kids warned us about the police. They’d be your friend today, smiling,… and then stabbing you in the back.” That goes on to this day here in the United States within your churches, clubs, military; but, the Oath Keepers is where the line will be drawn in the sand separating the oath takers from the Oath Keepers!
Pitty the oath takers!
