Finally yes there is a fundamental tension between the islam of the last 1400 years (mainstream or not) and some basic values of Enlightenment (modern democracy included, it is a myth that 'islam was a real democracy from the beginning' as some claim). No surprise that the only countries where religious constitutions still survive are the muslim dominated countries…The only muslim country with a more or less modern democracy (still far from the western democracies) is Turkey but even here a return to an islamic constitution (or at least a dualist system where religious law has precedence over secular law) is never out of question (given the popularity of islamists).

islam is definitely far from the rosy picture presented by its apologetics (some of them ignorant other using Taqqyia). Merely claiming (as many muslims in the West do, many really believe this) that 'islam is egalitarian', 'islam is peaceful', 'islam is tolerant', 'islam is fully compatible with democracy…', 'islam is…', without any real basis in fact, is not a real solution. As ibn Warraq put it well "no amount of mental gymnastics or intellectual dishonesty is going to make the unpalatable, unacceptable, and barbaric aspects of Islam disappear". Non-trivial reforms (http://reformislam.org) appear unavoidable (when seen from a rational standpoint).

There is nothing wrong with Islam. It’s just those who think they fully understand the concept of what the teachings of these great religions or should I say ways of life. I think that people focus too much on being apart of something without out doing a full background checks. Americas slogan is “In God We Trust” so we need to start living by that instead of using his name to do evil. America is a great country but its something that we are doing wrong also somebody need to stop getting us in these wars. WE NEED TO STOP CRITICIZING AND FIND SOLUTIONS WAKE UP PEOPLE OF THE WORLD.
