Obama, Omens, and Overspending: Rare and Unlikely Crashes During Stimulus Debate
Has anyone else noticed the recent omens occurring during the stimulus debate? You might claim I am superstitious, but there have been several crashes leading up to the stimulus bill. Am I looking too deeply into coincidences, or are these genuine omens predicting the future of America. In literature, it’s called foreshadowing–a theme leading up to crisis.
We now know on September 11, 2008, a run down on money market accounts led to the crash of American banks. Had the government not stepped in and closed down the accounts after $550 billion, the US economy would have crashed. Shortly after, the stock market crashed, which crashed many Americans’ retirement savings as well. The government felt like it had to do something; perhaps, work to cover up the reasons for the crashes. We may never know the truth.
In comes the new administration. The promises for a transparent administration crashed, spiraling out of control quickly after the inauguration. Heck, you might say the Oath of Office was a crash, leaving a debate about who messed up first–Obama or Chief Justice Roberts.
We are now 26 days into the Obama regime. There were three major newsworthy crashes that have occurred during the stimulus debate leading up to the day Obama will sign the bill into law. Not only that, but as Bob McCarty wrote, the bill passed on Friday the 13th. Let’s not steal McCarty’s thunder, and take a different look at the recent omens.
Tonight, debris is crashing on Texas from a satellite collusion in space. Two satellites have never crashed before Tuesday’s incident. Fifty-one years of satellites in space, and not one incident until the week of the stimulus vote. In the end, the debris comes crashing down. I probably wouldn’t be writing this post if it was just the satellites, but there has been other crashes in which the objects dropped quickly to their end.
On Thursday night, the day before the vote, a Continental turbo prop headed towards Buffalo suddenly crashed into a neighborhood. (This is in no disrespect to the victims and their families.) Air traffic controllers noticed the plane instantly disappeared off the radar. Reports make it sound as if the plane quickly crashed to the ground. An airplane crash is the least rare of these events; however, they are an infrequent occurrence. In Bush’s final week, another airplane crashed into the Hudson River. It floated long enough to save the all the people on board. If the government had allowed the economy to float without government interference and the stimulus package, they would have saved the economy like the pilots on board the US Air flight. Once again, in the nearly 100 years of flight, this is a rare happening.
Today, I am reading about another crash which happened early this month, but is just now being reported. A French submarine and an English submarine collided underwater with each other. Naval officials claim the likelihood of the crashes are a millions to one.
Am I looking too deeply into these events, or are these events signs of a coming disaster (crash) now the stimulus plan is law? All three of these events are rare; yet, they all happened during the stimulus debate. Were these crashes warnings about the stimulus plan? We have trusted an amateur with no real economic experience to guide Congress with this plan while asking Americans for their faith. Many economists doubt it will provide much stimulus, but it will increase the size of the government–a government that now outnumbers American manufacturing jobs. Perhaps, we should have paid attention the signs we were given. It’s the rarity of all three crashes during the weeks of debate which opened my eyes to the possibility, and I am not even superstitious.
