Democrats Demote Christ! By J.D. Longstreet

The Crucifixion by Diego Velázquez (17th century)I have deliberately stayed away from the latest insult to Christians by the democrats… until now. Frankly, in my opinion, as a subscriber to the Christian faith, it is blasphemy to refer to Christ as a “community organizer”.

Blasphemy is defined as: Irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable; The act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for any religion’s deity or deities; The act of claiming the attributes of a deity.

(en.wiktionary.org/wiki/blasphemy)

Another source defines blasphemy as:

1. a. A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.
b. The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God.
2. An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct

The phrase, or “slogan”, if you will, the democrats are throwing around these days in which Christ is demoted from the position of “Son of God” to a mere “community organizer” fits, perfectly, the definition of blasphemy.

I cannot grasp the shallowness, or the insensitivity, of an organization attempting to use such a tactic to promote their candidate for President of the United States. The use of this “slogan” has incensed the Christian community in America and has dissolved the already thin veneer of “respect” for Christianity the Obama campaign has tried so desperately to prop up almost from day one of the campaign. That veneer has dropped away now and its absence has laid bare the utter contempt the Obama campaign has for Christians in America.

There is now no excuse for a Christian to cast a ballot in November in favor of Mr. Obama. None. In fact, if I were a democrat, I would not stop, after I got off work today, until I drove to my local Board of Elections office and changed my political registration from “democrat” to something else. My faith would not allow me to be a registered democrat.

No, I’m no theologian, but it doesn’t take the training of a theologian to recognize an “in your face insult to God”. And that is what this tactic is. It is raw human arrogance. Once again, it is man trying to be like God. It is the sin that brought man down, and had Satin tossed out of heaven and damned to an eternal Hell.

The Obama campaign should be aware; you cannot attack God with impunity. To equate Obama with Jesus Christ is the height of foolishness. The Scriptures, themselves, warn of us such people. For instance, this verse from the 24th chapter of the Book of Matthew in the New Testament:

“For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”

Does this not sound familiar? When reading the verse of scripture above, did your mind not bring up a mental picture of Obama? How could it not?

And there is another verse of scripture from the same chapter of the Book of Matthew. It is the 24th verse. It reads:

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew (show) great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

Dare I ask what you thought of as you read that very instructive piece of scripture? It isn’t necessary.

Once again, the Christian faith is under attack, and this time… by one of the two major political parties in the United States.

Fellow Christians, the Obama campaign has done America a great service by dropping their façade of respect for the Christian faith. They have allowed us to see them for who they really are. It is now up to each of us to ask ourselves if we are to be true to the real Christ, the Son of God, and vote against this false prophet, or, are we going to denounce all that Christ has taught us through his life, his teachings, and yes, his death and resurrection, and vote in support of the people who demean the very name of Jesus Christ, and laugh at our faith as Christians? That is a powerful question and it is the question a Christian cannot walk away from… for it goes to the core of who we are as Christians. This Election Day will be a time for Christian Americans to either confess Christ, or deny Christ. The “true” Christian will know what he/she must do… and he/she will do it.

One thing is certain. If Christian voters vote the way their faith teaches this November, Mr. Obama will never see the inside of the Oval Office, except as an invited guest, and then, not very often.

  1. A response to WRpeach:
First of all, taking quotes out of context, something both sides of this campaign are guilty of, doesn’t strengthen an argument, nor does it actually say anything about Obama’s faith. Second, Jesus did in fact proteest and his disciples followed suit. Speaking your mind and your faith with the knowledge that it will lead to your execution is thankfully, something we do not deal with in our time today. Back then, I would argue that there was no nobler form of protest. Secondly, collective salvation is in fact part of Christian doctrine. The actions of Christ were to walk and live among the poor, giving them hope that ALL are equal in the eyes of God. From another angle - St. Augustine writes in City of God that some of us dwell in God’s grace and some of us dwell in worldly surroundings, but that no one knows the true nature of their own surroundings until their time comes. This is commonly misinterpreted as an argument for predestination. What it is actually saying is that it is not our place as human beings to judge each other, that we, in this life, have no way of knowing about our fate in the next. Therefore, we must look at our neighbor as our brother because his or her worldly position and state of knowledge is identical to our own. Lastly, judgement day may or may not be a one on one session with God. I don’t presume to know the nature of such things. To do so reflects a level of self-righteousness that I simply cannot stomach.

  2. Melissa, if “Obama wants to help those in need, like Jesus did.” then he needs to stop trying to put it all under government control. Jesus taught about individuals loving and caring for each other. He didn’t get his disciples to petition or organize a demonstration to get the Roman government to provide assistance to the needy. He never advocated taking people’s wealth and spreading it around. Sen. Obama told Wesleyan students that “our individual salvation depends on collective salvation.” Well, when you are facing God on judgment day, there is no hiding in groups, no “collective” anything. When asked, “What is sin?” Obama said, “Being out of alignment with my values.” Not being out of alignment with the values God sat down but HIS values - that is sin to him. His campaign folks and all that try to equate his actions as being akin to Jesus are demeaning all that Jesus did.

  3. The level of self-righteousness that has been displayed by a number of writers during this campaign is nauseating. As a lifelong Christian I find such judgemental Bible-thumping to not only be hypocritical, but also offensive to the core of my being. Christ’s legacy was NOT to judge, NOT to proclaim one’ own righteousness using in the name of God. In fact, such false abuses of power and religious authority in the Roman Empire and Hebrew Sanhedrin were PRECISELY why Christianity arose with such fervor and what Christ preached against. Christ focused on raising up the marginalized of society, comforting them in their worldly persecution and suffering with the promise of hope and love to come. He sought to inspire others to look upon themselves and those less fortunate or of other creeds, backgrounds, etc. as their own brothers and sisters, EQUAL in the eyes of God. Judgement was never meant to be part of the human condition. For space’s sake, I won’t quote the numerous scriptural passages in support of this. Of course, the author above and like-minded supporters seem to conveniently have a selective attitude towards Christian doctrinal heritage. It’s perfectly okay to feel that your candidate should support your Christian values, our country is founded upon the ability of different minded people to be able to engage in political discourse. This election is about the direction this country will go in, not about one group or another’s desire to see religious doctrine manifested in state policy. We have in this country (remember?) a separation of church and state for a reason. If you want vote based on Christian values, fine, but please remind yourselves of what that actually means and stop embarrassing and judging religious people who may not see things with your interpretation.

  4. You are out of your mind. When they referred to him as a community organizer it wasn’t demoting..it was the truth.

  5. During his time here on Earth, Jesus Christ devoted his life to helping the poor, the sick, and the disenfranchised. Obama wants to help those in need, like Jesus did. According to your opinion, my saying that he wants to lead like Jesus did makes me blasphemous? Please.

Obama’s campaign was not equating Obama with Jesus. That is a gross misinterpretation of the truth. They were hoping that people would realize that Obama recognizes the importance of helping those in need.

Did you think it blasphemous when the McCain campaign ran a television ad remarking that Obama was “the one” and showed his seal rising out of the Red Sea?

Seriously, you can tell that you are no theologian. Theologians have a much deeper understanding of blaspemy and would most likely laugh at your superficial interpretation.
