Google lashes out at blogs critical of Obama By Editor

Is anyone really surprised at this? It’s totally consistent with Google’s leftist ideologes.

Google Shuts Down Anti-Obama Sites On Its Blogger Platform

Posted by Warner Todd Huston on Sunday, June 29, 2008 4:18:40 PM

It looks like Google has officially joined the Barack Obama campaign and decided that its contribution would be to shut down any blog on the Google owned Blogspot.com blogging system that has an anti-Obama message. Yes, it sure seems that Google has begun to go through its many thousands of blogs to lock out the owners of anti-Obama blogs so that the noObama message is effectively squelched. Thus far, Google has terminated the access by blog owners to 7 such sites and the list may be growing. Boy, it must be nice for Barack Obama to have an ally powerful enough to silence his opponents like that!

It isn’t just conservative sites that Google’s Blogger platform is eliminating. For instance, www.comealongway.blogspot.com has been frozen and this one is a Hillary supporting site. The operator of Come a Long Way has a mirror site off the Blogspot platform and has today posted this notice:

USA Partisan (my other site) was among the sites targeted by Google. I suppose I can take a small measure of pride in qualifying for the hit list.

Below is Bloggers explanation:

You knew that already, and now we do too. We have now restored all accounts that were mistakenly marked as spam yesterday. (See: Spam Fridays)

We want to offer our sincerest apologies to affected bloggers and their readers. We’ve tracked down the problem to a bug in our data processing code that locked blogs even when our algorithms concluded they were not spam. We are adding additional monitoring and process checks to ensure that bugs of this magnitude are caught before they can affect your data.

At Blogger, we strongly believe that you own and should control your posts and other data. We understand that you trust us to store and serve your blog, and incidents like this one are a betrayal of that trust. In the spirit of ensuring that you always have access to your data, we have been working on importing and exporting tools to make it easier to back up your posts. If you’d like a sneak peek at the Import / Export tool, you can try it out on Blogger in Draft.

Our restoration today was of all blogs that were mistakenly marked as spam due to Friday’s bug. Because spam fighting inherently runs the risk of false positives, your blog may have been mis-classified as spam for other reasons. If you are still unable to post to your blog today you can request a review by clicking Request Unlock Review on your Dashboard.

Spam Fridays

While we wish that every post on this blog could be about cool features or other Blogger news, sometimes we have to step in and admit a mistake.

We’ve noticed that a number of users have had their blogs mistakenly marked as spam, and wanted to sound off real quick to let you know that, despite it being Friday afternoon, we are working hard to sort this out. So to those folks who have received an email saying that your blog has been classified as spam and can’t post right now, we offer our sincere apologies for the trouble.

We hope to have this resolved shortly, and appreciate your patience as we work through the kinks.

Here is a note I posted (via a Text Box) shortly after receiving notice from Blogger that I was barred from posting due being suspected of being a Spam Site.

7-31-08 Notice to readers of USA Partisan
8-3-08 USAP has been released from Blogger lock-down

Today (7-31) I received notice from Blogger that USA Partisanis a spam site (I have not a clue what that means or what makes this site a spam site). A review, or some such thing, is in progress, I am told. During this review period I am prevented from posting to USAP.

The reason I bring this notice up is the discrepancy between when Blogger says they locked sites down and when it actually happened - almost 2 days ealier.

Not only are they lying about why the lockout occured but when they actually initiated it.
